Jammu, Jan 22 : A meeting of Civil Defence Wardens (CDW) was held at conference hall of CTI HG/CD Jammu. The meeting was held under the direction of Ashok Kumar Atri, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police HG/CD and SDRF Jammu. According to press release, the aim of the meeting was to review the arrangements for forth coming Republic Day-2014 in which Parveen Singh, DSP Deputy Controller CD Jammu, besides about 40 Civil Defence wardens which include Chief warden Jugal Mahajan, Divisional Wardens Jia Lal Sharma, Dinesh Gupta, Kanta Bhan, Santosh Magotra, Deputy Divisional Wardens Shashi Kohli, R Vijay Magotra and Raj Bakshi participated. Speaking on the occasion, DIG. Ashok Kumar Atri threw light on the role of Civil Defence and its importance during any natural and man-made disasters. They were apprised about the aim and objectives of Civil Defence to save lives, to minimize damage to property, to maintain continuity of production and to keep up the moral of the public high. He said that local community is invariably the first responders to any disaster situation, therefore adequate awareness and preparedness of the civil community is need of the hour to respond to any such situation, which can be crucial in mitigating the damage to property and loss of human life, besides to play an important role in disaster management for rescue, relief and rehabilitation operation. The gathering were further apprised that Civil Defence organisation being the first responders can play a vital role only with the cooperation of CD wardens/volunteers and local populace, during any eventuality. |
