SRINAGAR, Jan 22 : Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today claimed to have acted swiftly following fresh snowfall in the summer capital of the state. The Corporation said that the swift action ensured smooth movement of traffic and local population to all essential and important installations in the Srinagar city. In a press release, SMC Media Relations Officer, Masrat Yousuf said that around 2,700 men were deployed since early in the morning to clear snow on approach roads towards essential services like hospitals, shrines, main government offices and banks. Masrat said that 21 machines, including robots, skid steers, caterpillars, hoppers and loaders, were pressed into service to ensure people do not face inconvenience while travelling to hospitals. "A team of senior officials headed by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar and Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority Shafaat Noor, visited several areas to inspect the functioning of SMC employees on the ground. Chief Sanitation Officer Hakim Ejaz also accompanied the team," said Masrat. The Media Relations Officer said that the officials took stock of snow clearance drive, which was going on a war footing. She said they also paid personal visits to hospitals SMHS and SKIMS along with tour to localities like Safa Kadal, Karan Nagar, Soura, Nowshera, Hawal, and Nowhatta in old city. |
