Inter collage quiz on SVEEP organized

JAMMU, Jan 22 : Final Round of 1st Annual Rolling Trophy instituted by District Election Officer, Jammu organized an Inter College Quiz Competition on "Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP)" at Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
It is the initiative taken by the Union Cabinet to celebrate 25th January every year as the National Voters Day (NVD) to disseminate the knowledge of the democratic process to the newly inducted voters in the electoral rolls.
Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu, Umang Narula was the chief guest on the occasion while Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu was the guest of honour.
The programme began with the lighting of the lamp followed by invoking the blessings of goddess saraswati.
Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College welcomed, chief guest, guest of honours, observers, leaders of the various parties, principals of the various Degree Colleges, staff and students. She thanked the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to choose the right place to acquaint the voters with the power of their right to vote. Observers on the event were Mr. Piyush Singla, IAS representative of D.C Officer, Dr. Satinder Singh, Principal SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu and Prof. Savitri Sharma, Principal, GDC Paloura for the impartial conduct of the quiz. Five teams participated in the final round who passed through the five different rounds. Deputy Commissioner lauded the efforts of the institution to conduct the programme and urged tech-savy generation to enroll themselves in the electoral roll and contribute for building a strong nation. The chief guest welcomed the initiative taken by SVEEP to conduct quiz competition in a College to ensure greater participation of the voters. He said that this will remove the apathy of the voters towards low turnout and instil in them zeal to perform their responsibilities by showing the power of casting vote for good leadership. Dr. Manisha Kohli conducted the proceedings of the quiz programme and winner's trophy was clinched by GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu while Runners-up trophy went in favour of GDC R.S.Pura.
