| More rain, snow expected in Kashmir, Jammu, dry in Ladakh | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Feb 28: More rain or snow is expected in the Kashmir valley and Jammu region during the next 24 hours while the weather will remain dry in Ladakh, where border town of Kargil recorded minus 16.4 degrees celsius, six degrees colder than yesterday. A Met department spokesman said light rain or snow would occur at few places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. There would be increase in precipitation during subsequent two days, he said adding that the weather will remain dry in Ladakh region. The sky was cloudy with icy cold winds continued in the Kashmir valley, where the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg with minus 8 degrees was coldest. The spokesman said at Kargil the minimum temperature was minus 16.4 degrees against yesterday's minus 10.1 degrees.At Leh it was minus 5.9 degree against yesterday's minus 6.1 degrees, he said. Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, the minimum temperature was minus 8 degrees, two notches below normal, due to open sky during the night. At Pahalgam,a health resort in south Kashmir, it was minus 5.2 degrees against yesterdays minus 5 degrees.In summer capital, Srinagar, after a degree above normal night temperature, the sky was cloudy coupled with icy cold winds resulting in cold during the day. At Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, it was 2.2 degrees, Kokernag 0.6 degrees and Kupwara 1.4 degrees, he said. |
