| Kashmir Economic Alliance asks state government to de-seal commercial properties without further delay | | KCC&I hail legislators for passing Municipal Laws Bill | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) has impressed upon the state government to implement the recently passed Act seeking moratorium on the sealing of 'illegal' commercial properties in letter and spirit so that relief is provided to people whose properties were sealed. KEA Chief Spokesman, Siraj Ahmad while welcoming the legislation passed to impose moratorium on the sealing of commercial properties by March 2015 said that the role played by legislators of opposition parties is highly deplorable. Siraj said that legislators should have ensured smooth passage of the Bill so that people who suffered losses on account of the closure of their business units could make a comeback. "KEA had vociferously raised its voice against the discriminatory approach adopted by the state government towards the business community of the valley by initiating a process of sealing of the properties coming under violation of Master Plan. As a matter of fact no such action was initiated in other regions of the state," said Siraj. The KEA Chief Spokesman said that 42 commercial properties were sealed in the valley during the last five month. He said this step left the owners of these properties and their employees high and dry. He said it was due to the grave flaws that were there in the Master Plan the government presented "The Jammu & Kashmir Civic Laws (Special Provision Bill)" in both the houses of state legislature. "The bill after having been discussed in both the houses was passed despite the opposition particularly surprisingly by the legislators of PDP. The bill so passed by both the houses puts a moratorium of one year on sealing and demolition of properties coming under the violation of the Master Plan. Involvement of the corrupt officials in such constructions cannot be ruled out and it is important to hold a probe in this regard," said Siraj. The KEA Chief Spokesman said that the Alliance hopes and expects that the Act passed is enforced immediately so as to provide relief to the business community of the state along with their employees. He said the properties sealed by the authorities should be de sealed without any further delay. Meanwhile, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCC&I) has welcome the state legislators 'positive' approach to see logic in allowing to the extend the dead line for the functioning of hotels and other business houses in Srinagar, Jammu & Katra cities for one more year. KCC&I President, Sheikh Ashiq Ahmad has hailed the state government for taking such a 'positive' approach which is aimed at giving a chance to the business people concerned to rectify the wrong and save large number of people who have been earning their living through the identified shopping complexes and hotels.
