| Yet another feather in Principal GDC, Srinagar's cap; blocks promotion of senior docs | | Abuses, harasses female doctors regularly | | Jehangir Rashid
SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Principal Government Dental College (GDC) Srinagar, Dr. Riyaz Farooq has turned law unto himself despite the fact that he is neck deep in corruption and at the same time meting out harassment to the staff including the senior faculty members of the college.
Sources told Early Times that Dr. Riyaz continues to harass the staff in the college and has in fact blocked the promotion of some of the senior doctors of the college. The sources said that Principal GDC, Srinagar has many times threatened the doctors more so the juniors to fall in line or face the axe.
"There are many female doctors working at Government Dental College, Srinagar and all of them have been terrified by Dr. Riyaz. Without caring for anything whatsoever he hurls choicest abuses on the female doctors. Most of these prefer to remain silent and are not willing to share details with their family or friends in order to avoid embarrassment," said sources.
Sources said that promotion of at least six senior doctors has been blocked by Dr. Riyaz and the basic reason for the same is that he considers himself above the law fully knowing that nobody can cause any harm to him. Feeling that their career is at stake if they confront the Principal GDC, Srinagar the doctors have been forced to toe the line and accept his diktats.
"Irony is that the people at the helm including Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and former health and medical education ministers in the state government are well aware of misdeeds of Dr. Riyaz but still then he has not been removed. Despite the fact that his role has already been established in a case of exorbitant corruption no action has been taken so far," said sources.
Sources said that FIR has already been registered against Dr. Riyaz by Vigilance Organization Kashmir (VOK) but still then no action has been taken. Dr. Riyaz always mentions the name of Dr. Aijaz Naik in his threatening conversations with the doctors.
It is important to mention here that Dr. Riyaz did not issue the experience certificate in favour of Dr. Aijaz as a result of which he could not complete the registrarship. Following this Dr. Aijaz could not apply for the post of lecturer at GDC, Srinagar despite being competent enough to be appointed as lecturer.
"In the past many complaints have been lodged with respect to the conduct and behaviour of Dr. Riyaz but still then no action whatsoever has been taken against him. His conduct and behavior has always been rude towards his staff and he has no ethics as well as morality how to talk especially with female staff members. He is psychopath and needs to be given treatment by a concerned doctor," said the sources.
Dr. Aijaz had to suffer at the hands of Principal GDC, Srinagar after he deposed before VOK honestly without any fear while spilling beans about the purchase scam that surfaced at the Dental Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu. The VOK has lodged single FIR against purchase of only one item X-ray machine XG5DS Orthophos which the principal has purchased for 50 lakhs whereas the actual cost of this machine is only between 16 to 19 lakhs. |
