Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 28: Students, Scholars Joint Action Committee (SSJAC) on Friday appealed Governor N N Vohra and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to save the University of Jammu from what they termed as major disaster in view of existing nepotism and dictatorial attitude of varsity authorities who are bent upon spoiling the future of scholars and students of Jammu region. Addressing a press conference at Press Club, a number of scholars and students who were allegedly being victimized under a well-planned conspiracy of the university authorities, said that their future was at stake and it would lead to a major disaster for the future generation of Jammu, if the authorities were not stopped harassing scholars and students. "We have no intention to tarnish the image of Jammu University, which is our own institution, but we are forced to raise our voice as the university authorities have become dictatorial and are unleashing a terror on scholars and students by subjecting them to great mental harassment," a scholar, Varinder Singh Chib said. They sought the personal intervention of the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, who happens to be Chancellor of Jammu University, and the Chief Minister, who is also Pro-Chancellor of the institution, to save their future besides stopping favouritism and nepotism in the varsity. The aggrieved students and scholars also took on the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) Prof. Mohan Paul Singh Ishar for unnecessarily dragging the name of the Governor N N Vohra, who is also the Chancellor of Jammu University, to unleash terror on them and settle his personal interests. They threatened to sit on indefinite dharna outside Raj Bhawan if the Vice-Chancellor was not removed immediately. "We will have no option but to come on roads if the dictatorial V-C was not removed immediately. He is acting on the directions of forces which are hell bent on destroying the future of scholars and students. We will sit on dharna outside Raj Bhawan to highlight our plight before the Governor. We can go to any extent if the Governor and the Chief Minister didn't step in our future," they warned. Narrating his woes, Varinder Singh Chib, who has qualified National Eligibility Test (NET), said the Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohan Paul Singh Ishar has denied him admission in the university on flimsy grounds.
