Et Report Jammu, Feb 28: The Asa Ram's Ashram in Jammu had encroached the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land and acting on the violation, the JDA retrieved the land. In 2008, the JDA gave approval for lease of 281 kanals of land to Asa Ram's Ashram on banks of river Tawi in Bhagwati Nagar area. But teh Ashram encroached further land and installed its Cow shed on the JDA land. "We have retrieved the land back as around seven kanals of land was encroached by the Ashram people," said a JDA official. Sources said that there are chances that the Ashram people might have encroached more land on the river Tawi side, which hasn't yet been established. But so far, acting as per the law JDA retrieved the land from the possession Ashram. The land was given to Asa Ram's Ashram by JDA in 2008 for the purpose of establishing temporary structures but now concrete structures have come up and Ashram has sold the flats to people as well. The lease for the Ashram is for 40 years and the Ashram authorities can't sell any property on the existing land. Now, as the JDA acted swiftly and retrieved the land, people are looking upto the authorities that illegal structures inside the Ashram will also be raised to the ground further directions are given that existing land be only used for Ashram purposes and not for the residential one. |
