Jammu, Feb 28 : Opposition PDP raised the issue of continued restrictions and curfew in Lolab in the aftermath of an encounter in which seven foreign militants were killed. As soon as the House met on Friday, Abdul Rehman Veeri raised the issue of continues restrictions in Lolab. MLA Lolab Abdul Haq Khan was then joined by other PDP MLAs in seeking a statement from the Government over the situation and demanded that restrictions be taken off to allow the people to offer Friday prayers. The protesting MLAs tropped down in front of the Chair and started shouting slogans, following which the Dy Speaker directed the government to make statement in the same session. He appealed the protesting MLAs to give some time to the Minister to gather the information from concerned officers, following which the MLAs assumed their seats. Minister of State for Home, Sajad Ahmed Kichloo in his statement stated said that District Magistrate, Kupwara had imposed curfew in the jurisdiction of Police Station, Lalpora, Kupwara in view of the anticipated protests after Friday prayers in Lolab Valley, where an encounter took place a few days ago in which 7 militants were killed. He further added that District Magistrate, Kupwara has also imposed restrictions today in other parts of Kupwara district to ensure maintenance of law and order, safeguard life and property and to avoid any untoward incident. "As of now overall situation in the district is well under control. The essential services and ambulances are moving smoothly in Kupwara district. The situation in other parts of the Valley is normal," the he added. |
