| 4 climbers to attend belayers' course | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 26: Mountaineering Association of J&K shall depute four climbers namely Anil Kumar, Shashi Kant, Mrigank Kaushal and Aman Arora for a three-day Belayers' Course at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, the apex body for surface adventure sports in the country. The course shall be conducted by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee from March 31 to April two. "The aim of the course is to produce trained belayers who can maximize the safety of the climbers during sport climbing training and competitions. A belayer (the official who handles the climbing rope during a person's climb) is responsible for the safety of the climber during a lead or a speed climbing competition," informed general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria. During the course, these trainees shall be imparted knowledge about harnesses and their proper use besides familiarity with the belaying devices. They shall also learn how to stop all kinds of falls of climbers during a climb in a safe and dynamic manner. Instructions and rules about checking the equipment before the climb and other safety measures shall also be given to the trainees. The state climbers are being sponsored by Mountaineering Association of J&K shall leave for Delhi on April 30.
