| NC rally causes inconvenience to people | | | Shakeel A Khan BUDGAM, Mar 26: The maiden election rally of National Conference for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in this Central Kashmir district subjected the people who visited the district headquarters in connection with their own work to numerous hardships. The election rally came no less than a shock for the majority of the people. Nobody reached to the destination for which they had left their homes so early. Cops deployed in full strength near the Deputy Commissioner's office could be seen enforcing the diversion of traffic via Karipora. An elderly woman could be seen pleading with the cops to allow her to travel through the path that was used by NC bigwigs including its President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and his son Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is also the working President of the party. "One expected that the things will be normal at Budgam town. But on reaching there it was observed that there is panic around. One could not find any means of commercial transport there as the law enforcing personnel did not allow any such vehicle to enter the area. In fact, these vehicles were forced to leave the area," said a group of residents while sharing views with Early Times. People belonging to different strata of society could be seen landing into trouble. From businessman to employees and from students to patients all suffered due to the election rally. "We were shocked to see the police personnel deployed in strength. We thought that something untoward might have happened at this place. But later we came to know that Farooq Abdullah and his son, Omar Abdullah were going to address an election rally," said some disappointed students. The enforcement of diversion and restrictions gave tough times to all and the patients bound for the district hospital suffered the most. "I had to see the doctor since I am not feeling well. In fact I left everything behind and set out for the hospital. But I was very much upset when the vehicle in which I was travelling, wasn't allowed to proceed while reaching near the district headquarter," said Mehbooba, an elderly housewife. It was a bad day for the business community as well. They had lifted the shutters of their shops to earn some livelihood. But as the customers kept themselves at a bay because of chaos, the shopkeepers thought it better to keep their business outlets shut. One of the shopkeepers said that there is no harm in conducting election rallies, but these should not affect the routine work of the people. "India is a democratic country where the aspirations of all people are taken into the consideration. But why are the simple aspirations of the poor people strangulated. In future, it would be better to fly the leaders to the rally sites. This will serve two purposes, normal business will be carried out while as the election rallies are also carried out," said an aggrieved street vendor. |
