Early Times Report
srinagar, Mar 26: People of Jammu and Srinagar cities are up in arms against the National Conference led coalition Government for getting peanuts for the land acquired for road widening.
Even the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticized the state government for having failed to provide due and fair compensation to the families whose land and property has been acquired for the purpose of road widening in various parts of Srinagar. In a statement issued here AAP leader and Lok Sabha candidate for Srinagar Parliamentary seat Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that present Government has miserably failed to provide due compensation to the effected people as new Land Acquisition Act hasn't been enacted by the state legislature till date.
"The new Land Acquisition Rehabilitation & Resettlement Act (LARR) is enforced in the country from last many years but the Omar Abdullah led Government is least bothered to enact the same law here in J&K. If all the effected families in rest of the cities in India get double rate for their acquired land and property as well as resettlement and rehabilitation why not same thing is applicable to us?," said Mohammad Rafi Sofi a resident of Pantha Chowk Srinagar whose house is going to be demolished soon for road widening of Srinagar Jammu highway.
Our Government is totally corrupt and anti people and we will teach them a lesson in the upcoming polls. We are being forced to vacate from our houses and are paid peanuts, how can we tolerate this?, Rafiq added.
"We appeal people of Jammu and Srinagar to put a pressure on the Government and stand up for their genuine rights. If people living in Pathankot, Ludhiana, or Chennai cities are paid double amount for the acquired property by Government under new Land law why not same law is applicable to us? Why is Omar Abdullah silent on this issue? Why are our opposition political parties also silent about the same?" said Omar Javaid RTI activist from Srinagar.
It is important to mention here that under new land acquisition Act the effected people living in cities get double rate for the acquired property and rural people get four times more compensation for the acquired land and property. As the law is not applicable to J&K state, people of the state doing get benefitted about this legislation.
