Srinagar, Mar 26 : The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with rest of the country, remained open for one-way traffic despite rain. Several thousand vehicles, including those carrying essentials for Kashmir valley and passengers, left Jammu this morning. However, no vehicle was allowed from Srinagar. There were shooting stone incidents which were cleared and the highway is through for traffic, official sources said. They said despite improvement in the weather condition, only one-way traffic will be allowed till further orders to avoid any traffic jam as the road is damaged at several places. However, passengers travelling on the highway alleged that traffic jam for hours has become a routine, particularly at Penthal, the most troubled area. Only one-way traffic is plying on the highway since December last year. |
