| War of succession among Abdullahs | | Father-Son fight over CM post | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 27: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah are yet again involved in a `war of succession'. Who will rule the state? The question haunts both o them. Both expect each other to make space for the other. Dr Farooq was certain to be the Chief Minister after 2008 elections. The NC had contest elections under him and it emerged as the single largest party. But , with some backroom machinations, Omar emerged on the scene. He got the support of her mother and then the strong backing of the Cong vice-president to seal the deal in his favour and thus pushing Dr Farooq reluctantly out of the State politics for six-year. Dr Farooq knows that the next possible tenure, if things go their way, could also possibly be the last tenure as the CM. He is already a member of the central cabinet, thus close to the Cong, and has reportedly opened up his channel of communications with the BJP also. It's with these political calculations, Dr Farooq had said Omar should shift to the Centre and he wants to be back in the State. But Omar, is not willing to oblige his father and has categorically stated that he wants to serve the people, but clearly implying that he wants to stick to the chair of CM. The coterie of Omar, which had pushed Farooq loyalist to the corner, fears they will be mooted the same treatment which they had mooted to the other senior, if Omar is pushed out of the state. Their political career hangs on one thing only: Omar continues as CM, and they can go to any extent to ensure that. Farooq had till now not commented about the refusal of Omar. But being an old hand and seasoned politician, he knows how to move out his political opponent, even his son, when the time comes. He had as of now only hinted at what lies store for Omar, who also had pushed his father out of the seat six-year back. |
