| As politicians, bigwigs influence officials; title of land, area gets changed | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 27: Over the past couple of decades departments and agencies like Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) have come under influence of politicians and big wigs while issuing permission in both the legal and illegal cases.
Areas which were ought to be residential in nature were converted into commercial ones with the influential and those having political connections making merry of the situation.
Same happened to the fringe areas of Srinagar city located in the erstwhile Budgam district of Kashmir valley. Jamkash Vehicleades has come up in the Hyderpora area falling on the outskirts of Srinagar city. The contention that this commercial establishment is the only permitted commercial establishment is far from truth.
Reality is that people who are either politicians or are close to corridors have virtually trampled the Master Plan of Srinagar and have come up with their commercial or business establishments. The officials of various departments can easily be bribed and as such the title of the land can also be changed. Permissions meant for the residential areas are converted into permissions for commercial areas and vice-versa.
Early Times stands by its story regarding violations to Srinagar Master Plan have come up on the Parimpora-Pantha Chowk stretch of Baramulla-Srinagar-Anantnag-Jammu national highway. The honest and upright officials of Srinagar Development Authority can easily be approached in this regard. How can SDA give permission to one establishment while as others are left without the permission.
The proposed demolition drive as announced by then urban development minister and deputy chief minister, Tara Chand on the stretch under consideration is enough to prove that violations have come up on this stretch. |
