| Cop acquitted from attempt to 'murder on his colleague' | | | Jammu, Mar 26 (JNF): Principal Sessions Judge Kathua AK Koul today acquitted a police Cop Mangal Dev of R S Pura, District Jammu who was facing trial in a case for murderous attack on selection grade constable, as prosecution failed. After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge Kathua observed that the prosecution case suffers from serious infirmities which casts a cloud on the genesis of the prosecution version. So, the prosecution case is dismissed for want of sufficient evidence and the accused Cop Mangal Dev s/o Mohinder Nath r/o Darsopur,Tehsil is acquitted while being given the benefit of doubt and acquitted the accused from the charges leveled against him. According to the police case that informant was discharging his duties as selection grade constable, in his office along with PW Nazir Ali, on 20/02/2009, when the accused who too is a police officials, entered the office of the informant at 1130 hours with the official weapon (SLR) and started abusing the later. The accused allegedly cocked the rifle and with intention to kill the informant but the informant with the help of PW Sat Paul pounced and overpowered him and in the process a bullet ejected from the rifle which hit the ceiling of the roof. On this police registered a case u/s 307 RPC. |
