Jammu, May 1:National Panther Party (NPP) today demanded equitable representation of women in all important.
According to press release, a meeting was convened on the Labour Day, under the chairmanship of Anita Thakur, President of Women Power of JKNPP.
A resolution passed unanimously demanded equitable representation of women in all important fields of life; sports, culture, job in public and private sectors and women presence in all commissions and security forces including police. The resolution said that after 64 years of India's independence the women have remained ignored and discriminated in the government and private sectors which is very disappointing and does not promote the chains of democracy in India.
The resolution also accused J&K government for ignoring the women at all levels; services, commissions, police and other sectors. Resolution said that there are seven vacancies in the Public Service Commission whereas there are only three members and not a single woman member. The resolution also accused the government for ignoring the presence of women boards whereas women commission has remained headless for several years.
The resolution further said that working women feel insecure in the man-dominated offices whereas the condition of the working women and labourers is appalling.
The women labourers and farmers in the North Eastern States, particularly Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and other states have been used as bonded labourers and there is no legislation to defend their interest and safeguard their fundamental rights of equality.
Sex discrimination exists in every field. There is only symbolic representation of women in the legislatures, Central and State governments and other fields to fill the gap only in media also there is negligible presence of females as no serious thought has been given to this aspect of sex discrimination.
Anita Thakur while addressing the women workers announced that a state level conference shall be held on 14th of August, 2014 at Jammu to work out an action plan in defense of female rights in J&K.
The prominent members of the executive of women power present included Manju Singh, Neelam Abrol, Neelam Mahajan, Meena Thakur, Meenakshi and others.
