NC should merge with Congress or vice-versa
Made for each other

JAMMU, May 1: The National Conference (NC) and the Congress are made for each other. Their ideology is almost the same. Their attitude towards the Valley and Jammu and Ladakh is the same. Their political attitude to the state itself is the same. There is no difference whatsoever. Their leadership belongs to the same sect and same ethnic group. Their stand on the BJP, NDA and Narendra Modi is the same. Their stand on Pakistan and Indian Constitution is also the same. Between 2009 and till date, they worked together; they contested elections together; and they accommodated each other as far as possible. Mustafa Kamaal's occasional statements against the Congress in general and JKPCC president Saif-ud-Din Soz in particular were just aberrations, which did not lead to a point of no return. Similarly, a few statements issued by certain disgruntled Congress leaders against Mustafa Kamaal were also aberrations. The fact of the matter is that the leadership of both the parties has been working in perfect unison, particularly since January 2009, when AICC president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi threw in the lot of the local Congress leadership with the NC and asked her men and women in the state to give their fullest possible cooperation to the NC in the national interest, Congress-style.
Since there is no fundamental difference between the two in any respect and since they have been working together to achieve the same goal for years now, it would be better if either of the two merges itself with the other. There is no use maintaining their different identities. There merger has become all the more imperative considering the two recent statements - one made by the JKPCC chief and the other made by the NC working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
For example, on April 28, the JKPCC president told the party workers at Kangan that there was no doubt that NC candidate for the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency had the capacity to fight communal forces in the Parliament that have been unleashed by Narendra Modi. He made this statement while urging the party workers to work for the success of Farooq Abdullah. Similarly, on April 30, Omar Abdullah asserted that every vote cast in favour of the NC in the current Lok Sabha elections in Kashmir valley will be a vote for paving the way to make ACC vice president Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister of the Country. "The leadership of PDP is part of a tactical understanding aimed to bring Narendra Modi to power.
In fact, PDP is the hidden face of BJP and its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Jammu and Kashmir," he said while addressing election rallies and workers meeting in Uri, Baramulla and Sangrama, and added that the people of Baramulla-Kupwara constituency must voting wholeheartedly and in large number in favour of the NC-Congress joint candidate, Sharif-ud-Din Shariq, to strengthen Rahul Gandhi. This was not the first occasion when Omar Abdullah said that a vote for the NC would be a vote for Rahul Gandhi. He made similar statements umpteen times after the poll process started.
All this shows that the NC and the Congress are the two sides of one and the same coin. It would be only desirable if either of two merges with the other. Such a merger will be in their own interest.
