| Send package for displaced persons, refugees to GoI: Manjit Singh | | | Early Times Report
Vijaypur, May 2: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today expressed commitment of Congress party for one time settlement of refugees/displaced persons and border issues of the people. The monthly meeting of Congress workers was organised in Vijaypur under the chairmanship of former Minister Manjit Singh. Addressing the party workers, Singh said that Congress party was committed to fulfill the demands border people and refugees/displaced persons. "The GoI was seriously looking into the issue for settlement of refugees/displaced persons in J&K and accordingly, they sought some details about package which the Congress led UPA Government had taken seriously," Singh reminded the workers and other people who participated in the meeting. The Congress leader said that the Government in J&K delayed the package and failed to send it timely to the Central Government. "If the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had send the package, the things could have been different as it disappointed the displaced/refugees," Singh alleged. He said that the J&K Government should take it seriously and send the package to the GoI for one time settlement of refugees/displaced persons. If this package would again be delayed or not send to the Union Government, he said, then the refugees/displaced persons would expose the party which is trying to create hurdle for their settlement. Meanwhile, he also demanded reservation of the people living along the International Border under OBC quota. The border people should also be given right to enjoy reservation quota like the people living along the Line of Control (LoC) have been enjoying. |
