| Liabilities cross Rs 1 Cr, Artists not paid since May 2013 | | Radio Kashmir proving safe haven for casuals | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 2: The Radio Kashmir Srinagar is proving a safe haven for casuals as in 2013 the station has witnessed a massive scale of casual appointments including people between the age groups of 70-80 years. Informed sources revealed that regulars working in Radio Kashmir Srinagar have become a suffering lot as they are without payments for the last one year. Some casual artists and announcers have been taking the station at a ride by attending their duties at their will. On the other hand the professionals and the artists are waiting for their payments for the last over nine months and the liabilities have touched over Rs 1 Crore. "In such circumstances, artists are finding it difficult to work in Radio Kashmir Srinagar who was once a dream station for them," an artist said pleading anonymity. Interestingly the artists were being told that Radio Kashmir Srinagar is facing acute shortage of funds and their due payments would be cleared once the requisite funds are disbursed to it by the Prasar Bharti. "It is not true. The Radio Kashmir Srinagar had received more funds from Prasar Bharti in 2013 as compared to previous year. And the payments have not been cleared for unknown reasons," a senior officer overseeing accounts division of the Radio Kashmir Srinagar said. On the other hand, these funds which were actually meant for preparing programmes, official sources said, have been utilized on casual appointees. Sources also said that some night attendants have been promoted as programme assistants sidelining the merit and other requisite criteria set for these jobs. When contacted, Rukhsana Jabeen said: "I have assumed charge yesterday. But I have been informed about over Rs 1 Crore liability in this station despite a liberal funding from Prasar Bharti. I will see to it why there is so much of liability in this station and how large scale casual appointments have been made here." |
