| Gen Chachra conferred Param Vishisht Seva Medal | | | Udhampur, May 2: The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, conferred the prestigious Param Vishisht Seva Medal on Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra- the General Officer Commanding -in- Chief, Northern Command for exceptional service and outstanding leadership in a glittering ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan today. “Gen Chachra took over reins of the operationally active Northern Command on Jul 1, 2013 and conceptualized a realistic, practical and dynamic joint strategy in conjunction with the civil administration, state police to combat terrorism in the J&K, Defence Spokesperson Northern Command. "As a result of excellent synergy between the Indian Army, Civil administration, other Security and intelligence agencies, militants attempting to infiltrate have been systematically targeted and their leadership eliminated in hinterland in a series of successful operations in the last 6 months leaving most of the militant tanzeems in disarray and reduction in violence levels," it said. There is also relative calm along the LOC and LAC with reduced Cease Fire Violations, the statement added. During his command of the Northern Army, there has been a significant improvement in the development of infrastructure for serving soldiers and initiation of a number of initiatives for the welfare of veterans Veer Naris and their dependents. “A strong votary of Zero tolerance towards human rights violations, Gen Chachra has directed commanders at all levels to ensure that troops maintain highest standards of professionalism by showing fullest restraint and conduct people friendly operations with no collateral damage and inconvenience to the local population, the statement said. "The award of prestigious PVSM is an apt recognition of the valiant efforts of the troops in Northern Command led by their illustrious Army Commander," the army said. |
