Srinagar, May 3: A People's Political Party (PPP) Spokesperson has castigated the Government authorities for the continuous detention of People's Political Party (PPP), Chairman, and All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Engineer Hilal Ahmad War and his elder brother Jameel Ahmad War, a senior pro freedom leader. It is worth mentioning that a heavy contingent of J&K Police headed by SHO Maisuma, raided the house of People's Political Party (PPP), chairman, and senior member All Parties Hurriyat Conference multiple times in the wake of parliamentary elections that were scheduled to be held on last Wednesday and dismayed over the continuous hiding of Er. War. The police out of frustration arrested and detained his elder brother Jameel Ahmad War a couple of days before the scheduled elections which was subsequently followed by the arrest of Er. War on the election day when he was about to address a press gathering and take out a protest rally in support of the election boycott.
Pertinently, the arrests were seen as a preventive measure by the State police against a possible protest on 30th April against the parliamentary farcical elections in Srinagar.
Now that the elections are over in the Srinagar constituency the War brothers continue to languish in jail without a crime, in violation of basic human rights. A party spokesperson condemned this continuing detention of War brothers in strong words saying it amounted to State oppression and a denial of right to expression.
"This highhandedness of the State shows the times we are living in. If one is not even allowed to demonstrate peacefully, it leaves a big void for violent demonstrations and we demand immediate release of War brothers," said the PPP Spokesman.
