Farooq Abdullah lambasts brother Kamaal for comments on cross voting by Congress workers
Says all is well

SRINAGAR, May 3: There is complete chaos and confusion among the ranks of National Conference leaders with the Abdullah brothers not being on the same page as far as alliance with Congress vis-a-vis Lok Sabha elections is concerned.
The party President and the National Conference-Congress coalition candidate for Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat, Dr. Farooq Abdullah today took a dig on his younger brother, Dr. Mustafa Kamaal saying that National Conference-Congress coalition is working perfectly for the ongoing Parliamentary elections.
The National Conference President even went to the extent of saying that Dr. Kamaal's statement that Congress workers would vote against NC-Congress coalition candidate for Baramulla Lok Sabha seat is irrelevant. He averred that there is no such thing and the coalition boat is sailing smoothly.
Dr. Mustafa Kamaal who is the Additional General Secretary of National Conference had on Friday said that like the previous two occasions, Congress workers would vote against Sharief-ud-Din Shariq, the coalition candidate from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat.
Dr. Kamaal said that since Shariq belongs to National Conference, the Congress workers would vote for People’s Democratic Party candidate and former Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat. He said that Congress workers voted for PDP's Mehbooba Mufti and Tariq Hamid Karra for the Anantnag and Srinagar Lok Sabha seats respectively.
Dr. Abdullah issued a statement and said that NC-Congress alliance in Parliamentary elections was working 'perfectly well' and that Dr. Kamaal's comments stating anything to the contrary were irrelevant. He said that Congress votes were transferred effectively to National Conference candidates in the Anantnag Parliamentary segment election.
"Congress leaders in South Kashmir worked with utmost honesty and dedication to ensure that the NC-Congress coalition candidate wins with large margin," said Dr. Abdullah. He said that same 'cooperation and mutual trust' would be seen in Baramulla-Kupwara Parliamentary segment as well. He however, did not utter a single word about the approach of Congress workers in the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat.
If the things are analyzed in a proper manner then one can safely say that Dr. Kamaal's statement is correct. He has judged the mood of the Congress workers in a better manner than his elder brother. He is right in saying that Congress workers voted for PDP candidates during elections for Anantnag and Srinagar Lok Sabha seats.
Congress leader and Tourism Minister, Ghulam Ahmad Mir acknowledged the fact that Congress workers of Dooru and Kokernag constituencies in South Kashmir voted for Mehbooba. The same thing was later on accepted by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President, Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz. What is more shocking is that some National Conference workers voted for Karra in Srinagar and thus ditched its own candidate.
Differences among National Conference and Congress leaders and workers were also evident during a rally in Uri recently. The NC workers did not attend the rally organized by Congress in honour of NC working President, Omar Abdullah. Omar had to cut a sorry figure when he came to know about this shocking development.
