| Open rebellion by NC likely to mar prospects of alliance candidate on Ladakh Lok Sabha seat | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 3: National Conference is openly breaching coalition dharma in Ladakh with advisor to Chief Minister and senior party leader Qamar Ali Akhnoon and Minister of State with independent charge of Science and Technology, Feroze Ahmed Khan are openly canvassing for the Sayeed Kazim Sabri, who has backing of Islamic School Kargil. The decision by the NC senior leaders, one of them was a senior Cabinet Minister in Omar Abdullah Government and has also served earlier in Dr Farooq Abdullah's Government has also created fissures in the alliance as the NC leaders of Ladakh have decided not to back the coalition candidate and are openly canvassing for Sabri. Sources said the decision of NC leaders has also annoyed Congress Party which charged NC leaders with back stabbing and not respecting the coalition dharma. Sources said the Congress leaders from Ladakh region have taken up the issue with the party high command in New Delhi and senior NC leaders in the State. Sources said that NC leaders openly said no to party president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah when they asked them not to support the independent candidate as the same was against the coalition interests. However the two leaders while sticking to their decision have made it clear to Abdullahs that they can't change the decision and even ready for termination from party as decision in supporting the independent candidate was in the larger interests of people of Ladakh. Sources said the two leaders also made it clear to Abdullahs' that when some senior Congress leaders from Kargil are also canvassing for Sabri so the NC leaders can't afford to oppose him. Sources said if the result favours BJP candidate the NC leadership has either to act against the two senior leaders who defied the party decision to back alliance candidate or it will also affect the future prospects of the NC-Congress alliance in the State and even may invite an early fall of the Government as majority of Congressmen feel betrayal by NC and have requested the party to quit coalition. Sources said Congress High Command is, however, looking towards the poll results and it will take a final decision after May 17 as majority of Congress leaders in the State also feel that the Party was at receiving end after it joined hands with NC in 2008. However under certain compulsions and lack of understanding between some senior party leaders within the State with leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with which alliance was broken in 2008, the Congress was left with no option but to carry NC as a liability with it, sources added. |
