| Police Reforms Bill put in deep freezer by Govt : AAP | | | SRINAGAR, May 3: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has castigated the Government for not introducing the Police Reforms Bill in state legislature. In a statement issued here AAP leader Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that last year Government sought feedback from civil society and general public while the new police draft bill was made public by the State Home Department. Till date nobody knows what kind of feedback was received by the Government and what all changes has the Government made in the said draft bill? Irony is that the said bill was not introduced in the budget session of the state legislature and it seems that the Government is hardly bothered to reform its police by enacting a new Police law. "Had the bill been introduced and new police law enacted we would have Police Complaints Authorities (PCAs) in operation in all the districts as well at one at state level, the political interference continues to mar viz a viz posting of police officers from SHOs to top level and the reason is that J&K has no Police Establishment Board (PEB) which is supposed to look after transfer and posting of police officials," said AAP leader Dr Muzaffar. |
