Lawyers v/s Police stir continues, lawyers stage 'candle light' march

Jammu, May 3: J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu held a protest Dharna in District Courts Complex Janipur and thereafter a candle march was organized in the evening which started from Panjthirthi Chowk and after passing through various markets culminated at Press Club, Jammu.
A large number of lawyers and general public participated in this candle march, raising anti police slogans, demanding suspension of SHO Gandhi Nagar for his alleged manhandling with one advocate. While interacting with media persons M K Bhardwaj, President JKHCBA, Jammu briefed that a meeting was held at High Court Complex Jammu and getting a good response from the same, the police authorities were further warned to refrain from miscampaign through social media to deceive the general public. This meeting was attended by Ravinder Sharma (Spokesman Congress), Naresh Gupta, MLC, Kavinder Gupta, Ex- Mayor, Jammu (BJP), H C Jalmeria (JKNPP), Y VSharma President CCI Jammu, Inderjit Khajuria President Hotel and Lodge Association Jammu, Narayan Singh, President Rajput Sabha, Ashiq Hussain President Shia Federation Jammu, Dineshwar Singh, President Duggar Vikas Manch and representatives of various other organizations including students and senior citizens.
"Irrespective of their political affiliation, who with one voice condemned the action of the police and extended support to the J&K High Court Bar Assocaition, Jammu in its demand for suspension of erring officials who had misbehaved, illegally detained and tortured an Advocate Harshwardhan Gupta, he said.
He added that all the organizations and leaders who were present in the meeting were unanimous in their resolution that in case the erring police officials are not suspended, pending inquiry they will support the future course of action of the JKHCBA.
Reiterating his words, President JKHCBA Mohinder Kumar Bhardwaj had called upon the concerned authorities to suspend the erring Police officials by Saturday evening failing which the JKCBA and its supporters shall observe complete Jammu Bandh on Monday (May 5).
Meanwhile President J&KHCBA also has extended his thanks to the Bar Associations of Districts and Muffasils outside the Jammu district where lawyers also suspended work in Courts to show solidarity with the J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu.
