Jammu, May 3: The people of Chenab valley are up against road and building minister, Abdul Majeed Wani for not doing anything to restore the only road link of this valley to rest of the world. For past more than two days, a landslide has blocked the road near Ramgarh near Assar on Batote-Doda road and hundreds of people are waiting for government help but they have been left to suffer. Despite the fact that the R&B minister, Abdul Majeed Wani hails from Doda district but there is no direction from his side to the authorities to clear the road as fast as they can. Sources in the government said that Wani has done nothing for the stranded passengers and many people have no money with them and have no place to stay. "If this thing would have happened in any other area of the state, whole government machinery would have been put to mitigate the problems of people. How could we blame chief minister Omar Abdullah or any other minister, out own ministers and MLAs are keeping mum on the issue," said Sajjad Ahmad, an aggrieved person who is staying at Batote without having enough money. There are hundreds of people like Sajjad who are stranded on the highway. "The Deputy Commissioner Doda, Mubarak Singh paid the visit to the area three days after landslide hit the road. So far only a single Deputy Superintendent of Police, Farooq Ahmad was visible on the ground and no other official or police person came to see people," said Hukum Chand, another resident of Thathri. Stranded people are demanding that chopper service must be put in place so that they reach their homes. But government is not doing anything like such. |
