Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 13: Finally, the Engineering Wing of the J&K State Sports Council (JKSC) has started the work to renovate the multipurpose hall of the Indoor Complex at MA Stadium, here.
However, those concerned individuals have failed to provide an alternative to over 200 young regular players training in twin games of badminton and gymnastics.
To start with the existing wooden flooring was being removed by labour pressed into service by the contractor allotted with the project and it has been learned from the authorities concerned that the project will take a minimum of two months to complete. "We have just started the work and let us find the surface, which I think is not in proper shape. So, we have to do a lot of work before laying the actual flooring (wooden). To my estimates, it will take at least two months to complete the job," Executive Engineer of the State Sports Council, Sher Khan told SAN. Meanwhile, those young trainees and their parents look worrisome in view of no alternate arrangements by the State Sports Council for training sessions.
"Where do we take our wards for the regular practice? The authorities concerned should have looked into certain alternate arrangements before starting the renovation work. The hall has been closed ahead of the peak season i.e from May to July," expressing his concern, said one the parents at the Indoor Complex. To express their resentment, these parents also called on the Sports Officer, Rajan Sharma so as to enquire about the alternate arrangements, if any. "I have assured the parents that institutions like University of Jammu (JU) will be approached to accommodate badminton trainees for the next two months or so," informed the Sports Officer.
