Srinagar, May 13: Expressing concerns with the affected families especially farmers who faced huge losses due to sudden hailstorm which hit several villages of Charar-e-Sharief on Tuesday in Budgam district, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded that farmers should be compensated without any delay. In a statement issued here AAP leader Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat stated that villages including Buzgoo Nilnag, Lolipora, Watkaloo, Leddan, Brinjan, Goggee Pathree, Jeddan, Kutabal and Branwar experienced heavy hailstorm on Tuesday afternoon which almost destroyed the apple and pear crop in these areas. Dr Raja has demanded that authorities from horticulture department should be immediately deputed to these areas to access the damages so that the affected families be duly compensated. "The farmers in these areas suffered losses few months ago due to heavy snowfall and now hailstorm has compounded their miseries, he said while adding, "the authorities have failed to compensate a single farmer affected during the snowfall and now the fresh hailstorm has crumbled the farmers especially in Charar-e-Sharief, Chadoora, Pulwama and Shopian areas. Dr Raja castigated the J&K Government for having failed to take up the matter pertaining to damage caused by the snowfall with Govt of India . He said if MP's from Maharashtra could take up the matter related to damage caused to onion crop in Nashik and other areas with centre why did not State government in J&K demanded special package for the farmers of Kashmir whose apple, almond and pear orchards were damaged completely snowfall and rainfall. |
