| HC puts TD Legal Advisor on notice | | Turning hotels into guest houses | |

srinagar, May 13 : Jammu and Kashmir High Court has issued a show cause notice to Legal Advisor of J&K State Pollution Control Board as to why action be not taken for tendering advise to circumvent the process of law as well as the orders of the court. The direction was passed by a division bench comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice M H Attar on an application submitted to some residents to the Chief Justice, alleging that the Legal Advisor of SPCB has been advising all hoteliers to replace their sign boards by one showing their hotels as guesthouses. They further alleged Assistant Director Registration of Tourism Department on huge monetary considerations was contemplating such registrations. "This has been done to negate and overreach the various directions of the high court issued from time to time," they had alleged. After going through the contents of the application, the division bench issued a notice to J&K Tourism Department which was accepted by the department's counsel advocate Mohsin Qadri. The court asked the department to ensure that no such conversion is permitted and restrained the Assistant Director (Registration), Tourism Department from passing any order granting conversion to the already existing hotels by treating them as guesthouses. The court also directed the Legal Advisor and the Assistant Director (Registration) of the Tourism Department to file the list of their immovable and movable assets. |
