| Basohli belt still deprived of 'Fire Service Station' | | | Early Times Report
basohli, May 13 : Expressing concerns over increase in number of fire incidents, particularly in rural areas locals put blame on authorities for their failure in taking appropriate steps in this regard as till date there is not a single Fire Service Station in Lakhanpur- Sarthal and Udhampur-Basohli forcing people to douse the flames by conventional methods. Regretting the loss to people especially the poor and down trodden section of society i.e. nomads living in Kachha houses who are more prone to fires especially in summers, the locals lamented that costly livestock of the nomads as well as of the villagers in Bani,Basohli, Billawer and Ram Nagar tehsils are vulnerable to this danger who got trapped in the accidental bush/forest fires resulting their economy shattered. Local residents pin pointed that there is not even a single Firefighting Services Station set up enroute Lakhanpur- Sarthal and Udhampur-Basohli sectors which are the most prone areas to bush fires. "In the event of outbreak of fires in theses villages it becomes extremely difficult for the natives to put out the fire by the traditional methods i.e. with help of buckets full of water and things turn from bad to worse when water becomes rare commodity in most of draught hit areas of Kandi belt of Jammu region. Locals alleged that it is observed that for the safety of VIP's and of the VVIP's, the fire Brigade is pressed into service in accordance with their itinerary during their official tours but this vanishes as the VVIP tour concludes. Locals highlighting their grievances demanded fire stations at each town Kishanpur, Billawer, Mahanpur, Basohli and Bani towns because there is great loss of livestock and property reported every year. |
