Kupwara, May 13 : It was supposed to be tourist destination and morning walker's paradise, but the much-hyped park on the banks of the Bohipora River Near Fishers Department Kupwara has become a dumping yard, with dirty water filled potholes everywhere. The park was part of the River beautification project launched about two years back. Although the project has missed several deadlines over the years, the park has been totally neglected by the Department of Floriculture (DOF). The plan had provided for landscaping of park and side of the river by constructing walkways, gardens and recreation centres to replace the garbage dumps, which have come up over the years, but not much progress has been made. Locals said Department has failed to complete their share of work on the project, which could have provided a picnic spot for the residents and given a fillip to tourism in the Natural Beauty City. "Childrens And Zanana Park of the city, which could be made an attractive feature. Even the work on the lake project is going on at a slow pace and instead of children cattle are seen in this park," said Zubair Mir , a BSc student. Floriculture Officer kupwara Sherifudin Lone was not available for comment. |
