JAMMU, June 1: The pro-autonomy NC, which has been ruling the state in alliance with the fake secular and minority-appeaser Congress since January 2008 and which, like the Sonia-Rahul Gandhi Congress, was rejected outright and with contempt by the people in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections, is, it appears, has not learned any lesson from its humiliating defeat. That it continues to insistent on autonomy or restoration of the anti-people, anti-democratic, divisive and pro-Kashmir Article 370 has become more than evident during the past four days, with Omar Abdullah and members of his coterie in Kashmir and Jammu making highly outrageous and controversial statements on the BJP and the founder of Jana Sangh Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, who laid down his life in Kashmir in June 1953 for the cause of the country and the state's complete political and constitutional integration with India while bitterly opposing Article 370 and the obnoxious permit system that prevented the people of the state to visit different parts of India and the vice-versa without first obtaining a permit. They made dangerous and provocative statements, including the statement that Jammu & Kashmir will not be part of India or Article 370 -- that has caused immense damage to the state and its people, Muslims included, -- will exist have impacted the political scene of Jammu to the extent that a number of political and social groups have raised a banner of revolt against the NC and similar other Kashmir-centric parties, including the Congress, and demanded trifurcation of the state. The Jammu State Morcha (JSM), the Dogra Front (DF), the Shiv Sena (SS), the Panun Kashmir (PK), the Dalit Sena (DS), the All-India Backward Classes Union, Registered, (AIBCU), to mention only a few, have upped the ante and demanded not just abrogation of Article 370 but also the state's trifurcation. They have said that Article 370 has destroyed the nationalist constituency in the state and promoted fissiparous tendencies in the Valley and they cannot have any truck with Kashmir where the Kashmiri leadership endorses the separatist line. The people of Jammu province and Ladakh region cannot have any truck with the regressive and discriminatory Kashmiri leadership and let the state be trifurcated so that the people of Jammu and Ladakh become master of their own destiny in India and under the Indian Constitution, barring Article 370, they have said. They have also said that a party that got only 9-10 per cent votes has no right to speak for Jammu and Ladakh, and even for Kashmir. As for the PK, it has demanded trifurcation of the state into Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh states and bifurcation of Kashmir Valley so that the seven lakh internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus, all victims of fanaticism, get a separate homeland invested with Union territory status. The NC leadership knows all this and still insists on autonomy and Article 370. Such an insistence and lop-sided approach towards Article 370 would surely culminate in the state's disintegration. It's time for the NC to appreciate the feeling and sentiments of Jammu and Ladakh and the people these two regions house, besides the persecuted and hounded out Kashmiri Hindus. |
