| Anantnag Congress workers confess cross voting during Parliamentary elections | | | Saahil Suhail
Anantnag, June 1: Hundreds of active political workers affiliated with Congress, who today attended first ever block level meeting in Anantnag after parliamentary elections confessed to have voted against the National Conference candidate . Block level introspection meeting was conveyed by Hilal Ahmad Shah state organizing sectary Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee and reportedly nominated candidate for Assembly constituency for upcoming Assembly elections. Sources said that during this meet, dozens of senior congress workers categorically accepted that they voted against National conference candidate. They claimed that along with them several National Conference workers too voted against the party candidate, Dr Mehboob Beigh. "Before parliamentary elections actually started, we had expressed our concern before the party leadership but it was not entertained." A senior worker had told the gathering. Sources said that several workers claimed that National Conference workers too had not voted in favor of their party candidate. Hilal Ahmad Shah, state organizing sectary of Congress party and a close confident of Prof-Saif-u-din Soz when contacted said that workers expressed their anger and anguish which is justified. "Although our party (Congress) had not performed up to the expectations at National Level but in state situation was different and wave was totally against National Conference candidate here." Shah said. He said that seriousness of Candidate, Dr Mehboob Beigh can be established by the fact that 60 out of 120 booths in Anantnag Aassembly constituency were without National Conference agents on poll day. "Will you believe, on poll day when I visited Anantnag constituency I found 60 out of 120 booths without agents." He claimed, adding Anantnag residents voted against Mehboob Beigh that too after he spent 20 crores out of 25 in the constituency which he claims is representing in the state. However he denied commenting on the acceptance of crossing voting by party workers during the introspection meet. |
