| NC still marred by worker-leadership disconnect, cadre disgruntled | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 1: The ruling National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir is trying hard to revive its base in the state after the worst poll debacle in the history of party. Instead of coping with the matter and addressing the basic issues which led to their ouster in recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, the NC leaders, from top to bottom are indulging in blame game. Even the top most leaders of the party are holding each other responsible for the poll debacle and not realising the causes of their defeat at the hands of a 15-year-old party. After May 16, NC leaders have been meeting people in Kashmir valley and after 15 days, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and NC president Farooq Abdullah met party leaders in Jammu and got the feedback. But only staying one day in Jammu and not visiting other parts of the region hasn't gone well with the party leaders. "We were expecting both Chief Minister and NC president to announce the schedule of their visit to other parts of the region where NC has strong base but need some push from the top. But there was no such move from the party leaders," said a NC leader, who attended the meeting. He said that talking to few district presidents and not hearing the grass root level workers will not work. "Our leaders must change the way of meeting those who are the real workers of party. We have conveyed that both Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah must visit other districts as well," he added. The party workers conveyed that NC ministers, legislators are disconnected with the grass root level workers of the party. The party high command directed every senior leader and ministers to meet people on regular basis and address their issues. |
