| Vohra presents account of key matters, security situation in State before PMO | | Building rapport with J&K | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 1: In what can be seen as the Narendra Modi NDA government at centre having started measures to build up rapport with J&K, Governor NN Vohra is the first person at the helm of J&K affairs to have set this move rolling after it received a formal call from PMO to present a detailed 'account' of key issues in the sensitive state besides his assessment of security situation across the state. Sources said Governor Vohra visited New Delhi the other day and held meeting in the PMO with concerned quarters during which he presented detailed picture of various vital aspects of the state of which he is the constitutional head. He was extended this invitation by the Union government to have an assessment of security related issues including the present scenario, sources said adding that being head of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, the Governor also put forth account of the arrangements made the Board as also the state government to facilitate smooth conduct of Yatra this year. Governor Vohra is understood to have discussed the scenario along the borders of this sensitive state in the wake of report of possible increase in infiltration bids from across the border, sources said. The union government updated itself on certain key matters related to functioning of the coalition government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, sources further said. Governor NN Vohra's meeting with Union government, PMO in particular assumes significance in many ways, said the sources. Since he is the first dignitary at the official level in whom the former reposed trust in having sought his assessment of situation and account of key issues in the state, it is considered to be an important move conveying more than just the meeting. Pertinently, there is also talk of Union government also contemplating change of guard with respect to replacing the incumbent Governors in various states. It is in the light of this consideration in offing that visit of Governor NN Vohra assumes importance, though it is not fully known what transpired during the high level meeting on this front. However, sources said personal visit of Governor Vohra to New Delhi just few days after Narender Modi assumed office assumes significance. On the other hand, seeking details related to J&K from the Governor is also a key indicator to this effect that Centre reposes trust in him. Though Chief Minister Omar Abdullah attended the oath taking ceremony of new Union government on May 26, he has yet to hold a forma meeting with the Prime Minister. |
