JAMMU, July 7: Semifinal line-up has been drawn with New Challengers and Kishen Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) making it to the last four stages of the Chevrolet Cup Twenty20 Tournament winning their respective quarterfinals matches played at KC Public School ground, here today. Other two sides of Rainawari Cricket Club and KC Sports Club (KCSC) have already qualified for the semifinals. Now, in the semifinals, KCCC shall be playing against Rainawari Club on July 13 while KCSC shall take New Challengers on July 15 at the same venue. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, played today, New Challengers trounced Strikers Club by six wickets, courtesy brilliant all round performance from first class cricketer, Ram Dayal. Batting first, Strikers set a target of 131 runs for eight wickets. Mohit and Rahul Sharma were main contributors to the total with 48 and 29 runs in their respective accounts. From New Challengers, Ram Dayal bowled excellent spell taking away three wickets for 12 runs in four overs, including a maiden. Rohit Sharma and Manjeet Chib shared two wickets each while Deepak Mahajan bagged one. In reply, New Challenger attained the goal making 132 runs in just 16.5 overs for four wickets. Ram Dayal hit a superb knock of unbeaten 48 off 38 deliveries including two towering sixes and five boundaries. Another Ranji player, wicket-keeper batsman, Gokul Baru contributed 23 runs while Parveen Singh and Ashu added 22 and 19 runs respectively. Ram Dayal was obvious choice for the man of the match title. Meanwhile, in another quarterfinal of the day, KCCC defeated Krishna Cricket Club (KCC) by 61 runs. Batting first, KCCC, sailing on brilliant innings from first class cricketer, Vimarsh Kaw (67 off 55 balls, 1x6, 9x4), set a big total of 170 runs for four wickets. Bandeep Singh and Shashi Kumar also batted well contributing 40 and 28 runs respectively. From KCC, Sahil and Sumit shared two wickets each. Later, KCC could not maintain the required run rate and exhausted their quota of overs for 119 runs losing nine wickets. Amit remained top scorer with 40 runs, followed by Varun Kashyap and Rawat Singh Manhas with 32 and 25 runs respectively. Vimarsh Kaw, who earlier batted well, took two wickets for seven runs in only over he bowled. Ranji player, Manik Gupta and Raman Dutta took two wickets each. Shashi Kumar, Dhruv Mahajan and Somay Jain shared one wicket each. For his all-round performance, Vimarsh Kaw was declared man of the match. Today's quarterfinals officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik, Rajinder Singh, Sandeep Manchanda as umpires while Sohail Yusuf was scorer. |
