| Sharma dismisses NC 'propaganda', terms it his conscious decision to leave party | | CM’s political advisors misfired, ruined NC citadel | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, July 7: Rejecting the National Conference (NC) 'propaganda' that he and his son were expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years for allegedly indulging in anti-party activities, the 'octogenarian' leader and former Minister Pandit Govind Ram Sharma asserted that instead they quit the ruling party on their own. Speaking to Early Times, Pandit Govind Ram Sharma, who represented Akhnoor Assembly Constituency twice in his 37 years long political career, said that it had become unbecoming for him and his son Suresh Kumar Sharma to be a part of NC as they were feeling suffocated in the party for the past some time due to its anti-people policies, inexperienced leadership viz a viz monopoly of coterie of Chief Minister's advisors. "The present leadership of NC lacks political acumen which was the main reason for party's drubbing in its strong citadel of Kashmir valley in the recently held Lok Sabha polls… Chief Minister's advisors are also responsible for NC's poor show as they act as a stumbling block between the workers and top leadership… Though handful of CM's advisors lack required political experience, they rule the roost," lamented Sharma. Lambasting NC-Congress coalition Government, Sharma said that the alliance between the parties was a failure as both of them remained busy in 'shadow boxing' which badly affected the governance. "The coalition partners lose no opportunity in belittling each other due to which the development works got almost stalled and the corruption spread its tentacles across the state," the veteran leader said. Taking a dig at NC hierarchy for spreading a wrong word that he was expelled from the party, Sharma said that the 'advisors' of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after knowing the agenda of routine meeting with his workers at Akhnoor, issued a 'malicious' press note to media about his expulsion from the party. "A wrong impression was made by NC leadership that I was sacked from NC but in reality it was a conscious decision on my part to leave the party…. The decision to leave NC was taken on July 5 during the monthly meeting wherein all my supporters and workers were consulted before finalizing it," said Sharma. Sharma further said that booth, block and Panchayat level party workers, who are his hardcore supporters, resigned enmass from NC. When asked what will be his future course of action, the senior leader, who has contested seven Assembly elections from 1977 to 2008, indicated that he might hang up the boots and project his son, Suresh in the time to come. "I have called a meeting of my supporters on July 20 and after holding threadbare discussions with them a final call will be taken on future strategy… I will take into confidence all my supporters, who are my real strength, before making any decision…. I am thinking of handing over my political legacy to my son but I would seek an approval of my people for this… If they give their consent then only Suresh will be given a go ahead to lead," maintained Sharma. |
