| Transmission line hinders Kud Mall Road completion | | | Arun Singh
Jammu, July 7: How taxpayers' money was poured down the drain, can be very well gauged from the fact that despite incurring Rs 8.90 crore to construct 3.5 km road under the name of Mall road at Kud to de-congest Kud Bazaar by Tourism Department, the project failed to serve the purpose as 132 KV transmission line in between the road has not beenshifted till date. Sources told Early Times that to create more facilities for the tourists and to de-congest Kud Bazaar, the Patnitop Development Authority (PDA) constructed 3.5 km road (Mall road) at Kud during 2003-04 to 2010-11 at a cost of Rs 7.51 crore. They further said that due to failure of the Authority to ensure shifting of 132 KV transmission line and subsequent clearance from the Power Development Department, the vehicular movement on the road was stopped in 2010 rendering the expenditure unfruitful only due to the mismanagement of the PDA.Sources further maintained Authority without clearing the road for traffic incurred further expenditure of Rs 1.39 crore under Prime Ministers Reconstruction Plan (PMRP) on the illumination of the Mall road during the period from August 2010 to August 2012 rendering further expenditure of Rs 1.39 crore unfruitful. Thus executing the road work without clearance from the Power Development Department had resulted in unproductive expenditure of Rs 8.90 crore.. However, sources further maintained that authority is giving excuse of land acquisition issue coming under the alignment of 132 KV transmission line for the delay in the clearing the road.
