| Worried Congress constitutes Antony led committee | | To consider pre-poll alliance with NC | | Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, July 7: Worried ahead of upcoming Assembly elections to regain public support, Congress has constituted second committee in one month to assess ground situation for pre-poll alliance with National conference (NC) despite cold shoulder from Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh units. Sources said after Ambika Soni and Ghulam Nabi Azad visited Kashmir and sought reports from the leadership about the possibility of a pre-poll alliance with NC, the high command has formed another committee under the chairmanship of former Defence Minister, AK Antony to assess ground reports from State Congress office bearers. "Committee is based on Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Peerzada Mohammad Syed, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Shamlal Sharma, Madan Lal and Nawang Rigzin Jora. The committee would meet leaders across the state before taking a final decision on the issue. Sources said forming second committee in one month and asking State Congress workers to cooperate with AK Antony to assess ground situation for pre-poll alliance with NC for upcoming Assembly elections has astonished one and all in Congress camps of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as very recently when Ambika Soni and Ghulam Nabi Azad compiled wishes of State Congress workers about pre-poll alliance with, all the leaders in unison from across the state refused to contest Assembly elections in alliance with NC and termed the attempt a frivolous activity. "All including Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, JKPCC chief, Saif-ud-Din soz and frankly speaking Ghulam Nabi Azad himself is not happy with contesting elections in alliance with NC and all these and other top brass leaders have already informed party high command to go alone in Assembly elections," sources said. Sources said that most of the State Congress leaders are firm that State Congress can come up with around 15 seats in coming Assembly elections and are predicting around 30 seats for People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and ultimately post poll alliance to PDP to wipe out NC and Bhartiya Janata Party from forming Government in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that first meeting of the committee constituted under AK Antony was held in Delhi in presence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and in coming days AK Antony may either visit Jammu and Kashmir or may call State Congress leaders to Delhi and finalize the reports after which it is expected that State Congress would announce its strategy for contesting upcoming Assembly elections and would also announce names of candidates likely to contest Assembly elections across the state. |
