| Thanks to political patronage; tainted continues to head Wakf Board | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 7: Despite criminal cases pending against him, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his Government have chosen to back VC of the J&K Wakf Board rather than putting him under suspension to face the process of law.
Omar Abdullah lead Government knew the fact that Mohammad Yaseen Qadri the incumbent Vice Chairperson of J&K Wakf Board has pending criminal charges with the Crime Branch but Omar Abdullah appointed him for this important post few years back. Till date no action has been initiated against the said VC and Congress too has remained a mute spectator even as the Wakf Portfolio lies with Congress in the state.
As per details the Vice Chairperson of J&K Wakf Board MY Qadri has various criminal charges related to fraud etc pending against him in the State Crime Branch under sections 420,468,201 RPC
The documents were obtained under RTI Act few years back by an RTI activist from the State Crime Branch (a copy of which is available with Early Times). The documents clearly reveal that the Vice Chairperson of J&K Wakf Board MY Qadri who was earlier Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University has a case registered against him under FIR No: 17/2008 Under sections 420,468,201 of RPC pending against him in the Crime Branch Kashmir. It clearly indicates that inspite of these charges Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who is also the Chairperson of Wakf Board appointed him to lead a sacred organization of Muslims in the state.
People blame NC led Government of selecting such a person of highly questionable integrity as vice chairman of J&K Wakf Board even as he was facing investigation by the Crime Branch on very serious charges earned by him during an earlier re employment left no one in doubt about the way Omar Abdullah wanted to run this important institution related to people's faith. Cases of cheating, forgery and destruction of evidence are pending against Qadri.
Various social and religious organizations of the state have been demanding that MY Qadri should be shunted out from the post of VC Wakf Board but nobody pays any heed to their repeated pleas. The local residents have also demanded that MY Qadri should be removed from the coveted post of VC
"The Congress must also build up the pressure on the Government over this matter as the Wakf department is allotted to Congress Minister and we hope that Saif-ud-Din Soz will intervene into this matter and impress upon Omar Abdullah to sack the Vice Chairperson of Wakf Board without any further delay," said Fayaz Ahmad a local resident of Hazratbal area.
On one hand Omar Abdullah asks people to use RTI in order to know the details about tainted retired Govt officers who joined PDP recently , but Omar is unable to shunt his own men who have a dark background with pending criminal cases against them and Qadri tops this list Fayaz Ahmad added. |
