Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 16: The phrase 'Just below the lantern lies the darkness' seems apt for University of Jammu, as wrong information is appearing on official website of the University.
The website showing wrong information about Vice Chancellor of the University, whose tenure had completed three years ago. "If one follows this linkhttp://www.jammuuniversity.in/mscgis/vc.html, Prof Varun Sahani will appear as Vice Chancellor of the University. Leaving beyond Department of Distance Education (DDE) University of Jammu to maintain website, the site was not updated till December 1, 2014. Now remote sensing department is running years back", sources said.
They further said that the website also shows Prof Sehgal as DAA and Prof Tiwari as DFS. "This linkhttp://www.jammuuniversity.in/mscgis/dean.html show that Prof B P Singh Sehgal as Dean Academic Affairs (DAA), who had retired three years back", sourced said and added that the website showing wrong information regarding various departments.
"Another link http://www.jammuuniversity.in/mscgis/dean-sciences.html from remote sensing department, shows Prof Ramji Tiwari as Dean (Faculty of Sciences), Prof Tiwari has also retired few years back", they maintained.
Interesting, according to website Prof AS Jasrotia is holding two positions in the department. "This http://www.jammuuniversity.in/mscgis/associate-professor.html show Dr A S Jasrotia as Associate Professor and Course Coordinator, while another link on web pagehttp://www.jammuuniversity.in/mscgis/contactus.html show Prof. A S Jasrotia, Head,
Department of Remote Sensing & GIS, Professor in Geology", sources revealed, adding that negligence on the part of University Authorities is making mockery of the university among the visitors, who visit website to know anything about the University.
Interestingly, most of the government departments and organizations have gone offline when it comes to maintenance of websites having the vital information about the government functioning. The websites were launched few years back as part of the e-governance project to provide online data about various government departments and the different development schemes launched in the state.
"As soon as one goes to this page, a there appears old and years back information. It's not about remote sensing only but the sites other departments are either not updated or are non-functional", the official said. "It shows that lacs of rupees spent on using the internet connectivity and e-service to make available information for students and other visitors was just wastage of exchequer and has not served the real purpose for which these were created", he added.
