| 6 PoK residents among 73 cross sides, Ist bus after fidayeen attack | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 16 : Six residents of Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (PoK) arrived here, while 20 Kashmiris crossed over to other side of the Line of Control (LoC) to meet their relatives, separated in 1947 due to partition.This was the first Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of PoK, after Fidayeen attack on an Army camp in Mohra Uri in which eight Army personnel, three policemen and six militants were killed on December 5.
As many as 47 returnees also crossed sides at Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the LoC in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
The said the cross border bus run was cancelled on December 8 in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Srinagar visit and third phase of election on December 9 in 16 Assembly segments, spread over Baramulla, Badgam and Pulwama. They said six PoK residents, including three women arrived at Kaman post after crossing the Aman Setu, peace bridge on foot in Uri sector. Sources said 20 Kashmiris, including 15 women and two children, who had gone to POK returned to their homes after completing stay with their separated relatives on other side of the LoC.
Twenty Kashmiris, also crossed to other side of the LoC to meet their relatives in PoK. They included seven women and as many children, sources said.Meanwhile, 27 POK residents, who had come here in previous buses also returned to their homes after completing their stay in Kashmir. They included eleven women and a child.
Earlier, on November 11, the weekly cross border bus was suspended in view of Muharram. The bus service, introduced on April 7,2005 has helped thousands of families, divided in 1947 due to partition to meet each other after India and Pakistan agreed to allow travel of permanent state subjects of both the sides on " Travel Permits", instead of International Passports. However, it was agreed that travel permits would be issued only after clearance from intelligence agencies of both the governments. |
