Dr Jitendra, Kaul, Nirmal in race for CM's post | Amit Shah to take final decision on LP leader | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 25: Though newly elected BJP legislators did not formally elect its Legislative party leader in its meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, here today but three names are making rounds for the Chief Ministerial candidate in the party circles. Sources told Early Times that three names are in circulation for the post of Chief Minister in case the BJP gets an opportunity to head the coalition in the State. They include Union Minister in PMO and fire brand BJP leader Dr Jitendra Singh, BJP general secretary organization Ashok Kaul and MLA Billawar and senior Party leader, Dr Nirmal Singh. Sources said Dr Jitendra Singh would be an ultimate choice for the post provided Prime Minister Narendra Modi agrees to spare him from PMO. In view of Dr Singh's performance in PMO during last over six months of Modi Government PM is unlikely to spare him. However, keeping in view the challenges being faced by the party in J&K, Dr Singh may emerge as an ultimate choice to discharge this responsibility to the best satisfaction of the people of all three regions of the State, sources said. They said though the final decision regarding the selection of Legislative party leader would be taken by BJP national Chief Amit Shah after the talks with its alliance partner are finalized, Dr Jitendra would be the ultimate choice for the top post in the State. Sources said Ashok Kaul is emerging the second choice and this way BJP may play the Kashmir card as well and corner the Valley who are opposed to a CM from Jammu. Kaul who is a diehard RSS man is being considered the architect of BJP's victory both in Lok Sabha as well as Assembly elections is also a formidable choice for the post in case PM disagrees to spare Dr Singh. The third name which is making rounds in the BJP circles is senior Party leader and MLA Billawar Dr Nirmal Singh. A professor of History from University of Jammu, Dr Singh has served as BJP general secretary and State president for two terms in the past. Sources said BJP which has backing of six independents may give top priority to its alliance with NC as its junior coalition partner. This way the BJP would keep the Chief Ministerial post while the Deputy CM post may go to NC. Besides the NC working president, Omar Abdullah may be given a cabinet berth at Centre to run the Government smoothly for six years in the State, sources added. They said that NC has also given its nod to the formula to keep its arch rival PDP out of power. The party may motivate its legislators on the workable formula with BJP and Chief Minister. In a significant development Omar Abdullah rushed to Srinagar immediately from Delhi after meeting senior BJP leaders including Party president Amit Shah and general secretary Ram Madhav there. Sources said that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav and Dr Jitendra Singh convened the meeting of newly elected BJP leaders here this evening and held deliberations with them. |
