Confusion prevails after poll results | | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report srinagar, Dec 26: After PDP and BJP got fractured verdict in the assembly polls, the suspense over new government formation in Jammu and Kashmir continues amid speculations of NC and BJP meet and all sorts of sacrifices from Congress to form government with confused PDP. According to reports, PDP, which emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats, is busy in closed-door meetings and consultations are on to form a strategy to form the government. Though none of the PDP leaders talks with media persons these days, sources close to PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Syed said the Mufti himself, party president Mehbooba Mufti, Tariq Hameed Qarra and Muzafar Hussain Beg throughout the day today also deliberated on different perspectives pertaining to government formation with BJP in particular at their Gupkar Residence. The meeting was in progress till late tonight. While BJP, which has done well in the Jammu region and secured 25 seats, claims to have got support of all the independent candidates. The party has appointed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and National Secretary Arun Singh as observers for J&K to finalise a strategy on government formation. Meanwhile, BJP and NC today denied any kind of meeting between them in connection with the government formation and if BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav and Omar Abdullah are to be believed then tweet of Madhav that "News about BJP leaders meeting NC leadership in Delhi is baseless." was later re-tweeted by Omar as well signifying no meet between NC and BJP leaders. Congress, which has secured 12 seats, is from the very first day open for unconditional support to PDP for government formation and in this regard, JKPCC chief has reiterated that his party will to provide support to PDP. "It is a worrying situation that certain power-hungry political groups and individuals are trying to subvert the democratic verdict of the people in the just concluded elections for J&K Legislative Assembly," he said. He said a suave, experienced and forward-looking politician like Mufti Mohammad Sayeed should be allowed to lead a coalition government in the state with the support of other like-minded parties or groups and added that "It is a time when a government should be at the helm to reconstruct the economy, rehabilitate a suffering mass of people and ensure governance that brings relief in the hearts and minds of people." Soz said the RSS-BJP leadership would be well-advised to resist the temptation of cobbling a coalition that only deepens the polarization on religious and regional considerations, which is, to say the least, detrimental to the integrity of the state. He also said that "RSS-BJP leadership should also appreciate the sensitivity of this border state and not indulge in any kind of horse-trading, giving priority to the parochial interests. That kind of short-sighted political arrangement would certainly attract a social commotion and spoil the gains from a credible, free and fair election concluded recently," |
