Police cracks acid attack case, detain 2 accused | | | Majid Nabi

SRINAGAR, Dec 25: Police today claimed to have solved the acid attack case in which a 21 year old girl student sustained serious burn injuries after acid was sprinkled over her when she was heading towards her college at Nowshera area of the city here earlier this month. Addressing a press conference here, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Abdul Gani Mir said that police has arrested two people who also happened to be friends and business partners in connection with the case which sparked off the widespread protests in the valley. "Keeping sensitivity and social obligations in view, we cracked this blind and extremely challenging case. We instantly constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Superintendent of Police (SP), Hazratbal and also press into service as many as nine police teams to crack the case," said Mir. The arrested youth have been identified as Irshad alias Sunny son of Mohammad Amin Wani of Wazir Bagh and Mohammad Omar Noor son of Noor Mohammad of Bemina. "Irshad was stalking the victim and has been making advances on her. The victim after rejecting his offer left Sunny in vengeful huff which gave birth to this heinous crime," said IGP. He said Sunny after failing to convince the victim to enter into a complex relation with him hatched conspiracy with his friend and business partner Omar and carried out the act. Mir said Irshad and Omar are running a car spare parts shop in North Kashmir's Bandipora district. He said Sunny was the conspirator while Omar executed the crime while sprinkling acid on the girl after being lured by promised financial benefits by Sunny. "Both the accused before committing the crime visited the incident spot at least seven times in Lancer car . On the fateful day Omar took his uncle's car and left for committing the crime," said IGP. He said Omar while trying to make a quick escape after throwing acid on the victim also sustained burn injuries in his right hand. "On reaching home Omar told his parents that he met an accident in which a man was seriously injured and he has to flee. Omar then met Irshad in the afternoon and hatched another story to befool his family," said Mir. He said Sunny has been consulting faith healers to help him as he was desperate to develop complex relations with the victim who always reluctance. The IGP said that before committing the crime Sunny got distilled water and sulphuric acid from a shopkeeper at Batamaloo who has also been detained for questioning. He said in order to evade arrest Irshad flew to Delhi and then Rajasthan. He said the accused also visited Ajmer and on being short of credit returned home. "A case has been registered in this regard. In the meantime the victim talked to her brother this morning as she has been referred to Apollo hospital Delhi for further treatment," Mir said. Pertinently, on December 11, a law student while on her way to college was attacked by some car borne youth with acid leaving her seriously injured. |
