Talib accuses PDP candidate for issuing "fatwa" against BJP in polls

Early Times Report

Rajouri, Dec 25: BJP's Talib Hussain, who was defeated by a PDP candidate in Rajouri with a margin of 2490 votes, has alleged that a "fatwa" was issued against his party in the constituency to ensure his defeat in the state polls.
Levelling serious allegations of foul play and anti-social activities against PDP and its leaders during election campaigning, he appealed to Election Commission of India , Governor N N Vohra and Union Government to initiate action under law against such forces.
Talib regretted that despite several complaints made by him against PDP for the violation of Model Code of Conduct, no action was taken by the authorities concerned.
He alleged that PDP had created fear-psychosis among Muslim voters (BJP supporters) by circulating 'Fatwa' which was brought from Jamia Nayeemia (Muradabad-UP) by one of the close relatives of the PDP candidate.
"The Fatwa reads: "Whosoever will vote for BJP will do a big crime and he/she will be the enemy of Islam."
The matter and the scenario prevailing to divide people on communal lines was brought to the notice of Rajouri district administration on time but it failed to take any action, BJP leader said.
He alleged that the district administration had also failed to stop the MCC violation as speeches were made in Madrassas and mosques over the 'Fatwa' for three consecutive Fridays before the polling to create confusion and fear among Muslim voters.
"A Moulvi delivered many speeches openly in Rajouri spitting venom against BJP by projecting it as the most communal party and saying that voting in favour of BJP will go against Islam," Talib alleged.
He alleged that the copies of 'Fatwa' were also distributed among people on the day of voting outside polling stations to communalise the situation but the district administration and election officers remained mute spectators.
He alleged that a lecturer in Arabic Department at Thannamandi Degree College, who was also a close relative of PDP candidate, made provocative statements against BJP but nobody from the administration took notice of the matter.
