" Omar Abdullah governed J&K half heartedly" | | R.B.Suri | 1/14/2015 11:15:58 PM |
| Omar Abdullah led the Coalition State Government for six years with the Indian National Congress and made the mess. Since Omar was not having an experience in the financial field at all and throughout he remained dependent on his Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather and his close Ali Mohd. Sagar. After the 2008 J&K Assembly Elections, the National Conference won the elections and got maximum number of seats and formed a Coalition Government in J&K State with the Indian National Congress and Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Jammu on 5th January 2009 at the General Zoravar Singh Auditorium in the University of Jammu raising hope amongst the people of Jammu & Kashmir who had been reeling under insurgency and violence since 1989. Prior to becoming Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar worked as Minister of State in GOI and took oath on 13-10-1999 as MOS Commerce and Industry in NDA led Union Government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee. On 22nd July ,2001, he became the youngest Union Minister when he was made as MOS, External Affairs under the PM Atal Behari Vajpayee. He resigned from the post on 23-12-2002 to concentrate on his party work. No doubt he remained in power for six years but of no use as there always remained a tug of war between the Coalition Partners on one pretext or the other. In the recently concluded Assembly elections in the State , People at large in the Valley out rightly rejected them because of their inefficiency in working during the six years Rule. They made a way for the next Government in the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Born with a silver spoon and educated in top private academic Institutions in the Country and abroad as well. Remained in United Kingdom from his birth for a period more than 20 years and passed a very easy and comfortable life. Passing such a luxurious and rosy life , how could he able to walk on a sharp edged sword. One thing is PAKKA that he is an honest, straight forward , gentle and a man of commitment. But the only thing is that he takes the things lightly with the result the purpose get defeated.Certainly one thing is there that being 3rd generation of his Grandfather Sheikh Mohammed and after his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah , he got an opportunity to serve the people of the State for six years . His deeds and actions are before the Public . They are the Best Judge to rate him as an Administrator of the State. HIs this regime was not with a distinction one but with great zero as is evident from the fact that he stands rejected by the masses of the State. His party - National Conference(NC) has been reduced to the strength of 15MLAs (A.E.2014) from 28 MLAs (A.E-2008) As the history reveals that a)He is a such a politician in the Country who has not so far led any political movement any where, b)He has not remained in opposition in J&K, c)He has not fought any agitation against any Government set up so far, a) He has not sacrificed anything yet, e ) He has shown his narrow mindedness in requesting the Governor of the J&K State N.N. Vohra for relieving him from the post of caretaker Chief Minister ship. He should have continued till the new Government comes in. b) He remained over dependent upon his Ministers. c) He maintained DOORI from the General Public. d) He used English as a routine matter. e) Theoretically, he did every thing for the Unemployed Youth of the State but practically nothing which went against him in the recent elections. To establish his 'SULTANAT' once again, he would have to strengthen his political organisation from the very root level after having seen the debacle in the recently concluded Assembly Elections in J&K. By now he must have understood the reason for his debacle such as 1. Who is serious , dedicated and whole time devoted leader or a worker ? 2. Who is for his Own only ? 3. Who can take the legacy of his Grand father Sher-i- Kashmir who fought with the then Rulers of the State and ultimately established his Supremacy in the State thereby got preparing the J&K Agrarian Reforms Act 1976. This is a great contribution of Shiekh Abdullah to the Rural and poor People of the State. Since his party is a Valley centric political party, no doubt is working in the Jammu Region also but at a low profile , it can be able to fetch more MLAs from Jammu Region. Keeping all the circumstances responsible for the debacle, in view, he will have to work very hard in putting the National conference back on the rails once again. For instance, many remedial steps are to be taken by him at the earliest for the welfare of the masses at large afresh.A tug of war was going on between the Coalition partners since long which was not taken seriously by the Leading leaders of both the Parties.Whatever he could do , he has done it but not from the core of his heart. This may be because of his political compulsions. Some plus points are also there which reflect his political personality such as 1. He is a vocal and clear person. 2. He sidelined his father's close aids. 3.He attended the TASKS of UNIFIED SECURITY MATTERS very intelligently. 4.He has not involved himself in any financial scam yet. 5. Some times, he turned down the unnecessary advice (s) given by his father out rightly from time to time. 6. He is a man of truth as is evident from his deeds and actions. Contesting of AE-2014 on its own may be the reason for the NC debacle. In AE 2008 elections NC and INC fought the elections jointly and remained the winners. This time, both the Coalition Partners decided to contest the elections on their own. Prior to the Assembly elections in the State (Nov - Dec, 2014) Elections to the 16th LOK SABHA were held and in these elections three MP seats each bagged by BJP and PDP. Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar seats gone into the pocket of PDP whereas the rest three-Udhampur, Jammu and Ladhakh into the pocket of BJP. In these elections, National Conference drew a blank and its score was big ZERO. It means that the performance of Omar was nil. This was considered as an indicator for making an assessment about loosing of the popularity of National Conference. In spite of making an in-depth analysis of the cause of its failure in not securing any seat in the Lok Sabha elections, Omar preferred to go for contesting the Assembly Elections thereby discarding the Indian National Congress. Their egos conflicts led to the debacle in the Assembly elections. In a nutshell, one can conclude that he took the things very lightly and like a JEAN BOY went on passing his days in a very casual manner. To support my this contention about him I do hereby mention that with great pump and show a scheme for un employed Youth of the State named as Sher-i-Kashmir Self Employment Scheme for Unemployed Youth was launched in the Sate but was of no use at all as no proper monitoring was done regularly . It only remained on papers . There are main FOUR issues which he sidelined and were handled by him half heatedly i.e. 1. Giving of Unemployment Allowance to the Unemployed Youth of the State. 2. Solving of WEST PAKISTAN/ POK REFUGEES Issue. 3. Aiding the FLOOD VICTIMS in the State. 4. Solving of Pending Issues of the State Government Employees. It can be concluded that there was some body (Supernumerary Post ) who was running the Government actually. Four days after the TABAHI MADE BYTHE RECENT FLOODS IN THE VALLEY , he committed before the print and electronic media that he remained off the scene and out of touch from his other important Ministerial Colleagues. This means that during those days there was no Government at all in the State. The Valley people are great and courageous because of the reasons that they have adopted the way of life to face the challenges always. By facing these challenges, they have strengthened their will power and boldness in facing all odds in their daily life from time to time. They are facing the turmoil due to militancy since 1989 and other sufferings which over the years cropped up due to the negligence on the part of State Governments from time to time. It is also pertinent to mention here that a) Without thinking for building our financial resources, mindlessly he kept on concentrating on the creation of more and more Administrative Units in the State thereby keeping the EYE on VOTE BANK in favour of his party. b) He played his tricks and 'Hoshiri' in breaking the BJP and motivated the then 7 BJPMLAs to cost their votes in support of NC candidates for MLC s posts in the last held Legislative Council Elections. c) He decided to sail in the sinking ship of UPA. d) He has a clear mind with no stigma on his personality yetbut he is perplexed. e) He never mixed up with the people of the State unlike his Father and the Grandfather and continued to maintain a Hi - FI ZINDGI. Now it is up to him to make the Introspection of his deeds and actions made in past six years. To me it looks that all the above things went against him in the recently concluded Assembly Elections in the State. And alsothe worst ever situation they faced last year in September due to Massive Floods which the Valley has not experienced earlier in almost a century in the past. All these odds they faced on their own. The State Government played a very meagre role in mitigating the sufferings of the people. All these situations were dealt with by Omar Abdullah in a half hearted manner. Only he got the Charter of Demands prepared from the Administration and having prepared the same, it was submitted to the Government of India for consideration. But again he did not bother to act swiftly in giving the well needed clarifications to the GOI in respect of certain queries made by the Home Ministry. Since asked queries were not replied appropriately, the State Government could not get the approval from the GOI. Not responding quickly again, this instance can be considered as dealt with half hearted approach in taking the things to the logical conclusion for the ultimate welfare of the people of the State. This is a fit case for studying his behaviour as doing the things in a very casual manner and that too with a half hearted approach. As per one old Saying, "If any one does his work with a half mind, he or she is bound to face a failure come what may". This has happened with this creature. God may give him the strength and the vigour to rebuild his National Conference of his Father/Grandfather's time once again.
