In exchange of Azad's victory, NC to get Lion’s share in MLC elections | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 9: After getting repeating crushing defeats since December 2013, Congress leadership has reasons to celebrate victory of Ghulam Nabi Azad in the Rajya Sabha election in a big way but this victory is going to cost dearly to Congress in Jammu and Kashmir in the days come. Highly placed sources said that Congress has surrendered some Legislative Council seats to the National Conference in exchange of offering support to Ghulam Nabi Azad. "Although National Conference and Congress will fight coming Legislative Council elections jointly yet it is believed that former will get Lion's Share", sources said and disclosed that keeping in the view the understanding between two parties in the coming couple of years none of the Congress leader from Jammu province is going to become Member of the Legislative Council (MLCs) because NC will get support of Congress in MLCs elections. In its effort to get Ghulam Nabi Azad elected, the Congress leadership has ignored the reality and revival of the party in Jammu and Kashmir is largely depend upon Jammu province but it appears that party has ignored this region. And more important of all, failure of Congress leadership to get vote of Independent MLA from Udhampur Pawan Kumar Gupta is another indication that in Jammu province there is still anti-Congress wave. It is an open secret that Pawan Kumar Gupta had won elections due to the support of Congress and National Conference. Both the parties had diverted their votes in favour of Gupta but Congress leadership failed to get his votes. The party even failed to convince Pawan Kumar Gupta to remain absent during voting. |
