Jammu, Feb 9: The phrase One step forward two steps back, goes well for Health department as it had constructed the building of Trauma Center in Mahanpur but instead of making it operational, the Primary Health Center (PHC) Mahanpur has been shifted into it putting a question mark on the early inception of the Trauma Center. The inefficiency of department could also be gauged from the fact that for the last seven years, the PHC has been working from rented accommodations and its building is far from completion. Sources said that to provide immediate medicare to accident victims, the government of India had decided to establish Trauma Center in hilly area of Mahanpur but due to lackadaisical attitude of Health Department, the purpose of constructing such trauma centers has been defeated. "Rather than constructing the building of PHC, which has been awaiting completion for the last more than seven years, the same department has started utilizing the newly established building of trauma centre for PHC", sources said. They further said that the construction work of Trauma Centre was completed last year and department had also provided some equipment , but due to lack of manpower, the trauma centre remains non-functional, adding, "To hide the failure to provide manpower to trauma centre, the department has shifted the PHC in the building of Trauma Centre which is still to be inaugurated". "Due to non availability of specialized doctors in trauma centre, the PHC Mahanpur has been relegated merely into a referral station for accident victims". To save his skin and to divert the attention of habitants, the department has shifted the PHC from CMO, Kathua, Raj Kumar when contacted said that as soon as the Public Works Department(R&B) hands over the PHC building to the department PHC would be shifted. When asked regarding completion of PHC building, he said it was likely to be completed in next fiscal. Public Works Department (R&B), Assistant Executive Engineer, Romesh Singh said that rather than flooring and central fitting, almost all the construction has been completed. As construction work is completed, the building of PHC shall be handover to the department. |
